FAQ
Common questions about the Data Library, Global Datasets, and Local Datasets
Data Library Questions
Which datasets can I see in Data Library?
You’ll only see Global Datasets. Local datasets will continue to be visible in the Dashboard and Report Builder views.
Global Dataset Questions
What does Early Release mean?
Global Datasets are in Early Release, which means that you can use them in your production environment and there will be additional features added ahead of the General Availability.
What are the current differences between Global Datasets and Local Datasets?
- There is no formatting tab for Global Datasets currently. This will be supported in the future.
- The save flow is different. For Global Datasets, changes will be saved through commits and autosaved in local storage.
How do Variables work with Global Datasets?
Variables work the same way with Global Datasets as they work with Local Datasets. If you currently use Variables with your Local Datasets today, you will need to remap those variables to corresponding variables in the Global Dataset.
When you copy a Local Dataset to a Global Dataset, all defined variables will be copied over. The mapping of those variables will need to be redone after your copy is complete.
Local Dataset Questions
What happens to my Local Datasets when I onboard to Global Datasets?
Local Datasets will still be available with Dashboards and Report Builders. You can continue using them alongside Global Datasets.
Can I convert a Local Dataset to a Global Dataset?
Yes, you can promote a Local Dataset to a Global Dataset at any time by copying it to the Data Library through the Dashboard Datasets panel.
